Newfoundland++

As a patriotic Newfoundlander, I feel the need to direct whomever I can to this site: Fair Deal for Newfoundland.

It is an online campaign launched on December 27, and last time I checked over 17,000 people have participated. By submitting your name, email, and address, the following email is sent on your behalf to Paul Martin and Ralph Goodale:

"Newfoundland and Labrador was resource-rich when it joined Canada in 1949, but since that time Canadians have watched the natural wealth of the land disappear while the province remained poor.

"Newfoundland and Labrador has lost its fishery due to years of mismanagement and this has proven disastrous to the social and cultural structure of the province. Minerals are being shipped out of the province without generating any processing revenue. Newfoundland and Labrador has been a have-not province for too long, and a generation of young people have left the resource-heavy land to find work elsewhere.

"Now Ottawa wants to plunder the rich petroleum resources of the province through the Atlantic Accord. Enough is enough, Prime Minister Martin. Canadians expect better from you; we expect you to keep your promise and let Newfoundland and Labrador justly keep one hundred percent of its offshore oil revenues.

"Newfoundland and Labrador needs an ally on Parliament Hill and a reasonable Federal Government. Now is the time for a fair deal for Newfoundland and Labrador. Prime Minister Martin, keep the promise you made."

If you have a minute, and aren't staunchly against the idea, please check it out. : )
