Like I needed this...

A new addiction.

Organic Karma

So, the last day has been pretty interesting.

I get home at ~7:00 after an SE meeting to find a message on the answering machine. Job interview! I now have a job interview first thing Monday morning for the AITT. Since I'd pretty much given up hope about that, as I knew that Steph had had one the day before yesterday, this was extra good to hear. Oh, and I found the AC adapter that I had thought I lost.

Then I reflected on the amount of work I had to do. My beautiful, beautiful week of leisurely, well planned work had been shattered by the addition of a large extra section to the SAD assignment I had thought we had finished Monday. On top of the arch assignment I had planned on working on last night, as well as silly things like supper and sleep, my night was not looking promising. And yet, by some minor miracle, SAD is now mostly done, (to be finished this afternoon), and Brandon and I even managed to get through arch.

This morning, I get up, check my email, and find myself greeted with a most interesting message. "Your NL Bursary Cheque has arrived and may be picked up at the Student Accounts Office." Huh?

It seems I've been awarded a Millennium Scholarship. $1250 in cheque form, and apparently some currently undisclosed amount (which I suspect to also be $1250) to be applied to my outstanding student loan. This is simply unparalleled in its awesomeness, as far as I'm concerned. It's real free money, as opposed to the fake kind which I someday need to pay back. Which is the kind that I'm pretty much used to. So this real stuff is all strange and new.

My point, and I do have one, is that there has to be a reason for everything that's managed to work out so amazingly well over the last day. And I believe I know what it is: Karma. Organic Karma. On our way home last night, Matt and I stopped in and patronized Tao Chow Foods. We left with an organic chicken & BBQ sauce whole wheat flatbread pizza thing, some sort of pastry involving apricots and cranberries, and a few other assorted goodies. And apparently a side order of good karma. Or something. I made a joke about good karma from the organic food to Matt after the job interview message, but now I'm really starting to wonder. ; ) </silly>

"It didn't suck."

And so the Computer Science broomball team continues its strange new trend of not losing. Last night, we managed to win by virtue of the other team's failure to show. This in itself is nothing to brag about (although it means we're off to a good start as far as the playoffs go). However, in their stead we ended up playing for fun against the team scheduled to play before us - their opponents hadn't shown, either. We didn't win, but we tied 1 - 1. They were pretty good, too.

This is a fun turnabout from the days in which the other teams would, out of mercy, just stop keeping track of how many times they'd scored. I'm definitely a fan of this development.

Here's to playoffs glory for CS! Woo! ; )

I am not an artist

I went to the Clayground today with Steph. The eventual fruit of my labour will be an oversized mug adorned with salamanders and frogs, and possibly a turtle. I didn't get a chance to finish painting it today, so I'll need to go back and finish it sometime this week. My skills unfortunately are no match for my imagination, but it was still fun. I'll probably take a picture to post when I go back to finish it off.

Random

The days are starting to blend together. I've been keeping up with work (and the extra free time has certainly been a godsend as far as Software Engineering is concerned), but the lack of classes makes it difficult to distinguish between the days.

Moving along, does anyone remember my pretty shiny mp3 player I bought while I was in Toronto for CUTC? I brought it back. In its place, I now own a pretty shiny discman that plays mp3 CDs, and incidentally skips less than the mp3 player did. Yes, that's right. Also, it doesn't randomly shut down for no apparent reason. I realize that the problem was more than likely with the individual mp3 player and not with the model itself, but the discman is still seeming like a better option at the moment. With an mp3 CD in it, it holds ~3x the songs that the mp3 player did, and is half the price. So in spite of the hassle, I think things worked out for the best.

Lunch now. Later.
