Mystery mail

Apparently Purolator has been trying to deliver something to me. I have no idea whatsoever what it could possibly be, but I'm now excited about receiving surprise mail that's somehow important enough to be sent by courier.

Update: My mystery mail turned out to be my travel claim from the NRC for the Moncton trip. $41.70. In cash, dimes and all. Very strange...

It seems that this is "really interesting mail" week. When I got home today, I checked my email and discovered a letter from my dad informing me that he'd sent off a package to me on Monday, and that I should check to see if it was there yet. It was, and now I have all manner of goodies to get me through my... strangely assignment-lite week. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to go help myself to some bakery bread shipped to me all the way from Newfoundland. : )

Are you happy now?

So I'm finally posting a new entry. By now it's been so long since I last posted that if I didn't really make a point of posting soon, I probably never would have again. Then my blog would have joined the many things which I tried for some time, quickly lost interest in, and forgot about.

Anyway, in news: A wonderous event has occurred, resulting in the following glorious sight:

I can't even remember for sure the last time I saw this; it may have been July. Hopefully I can maintain it at least until Christmas, although I doubt very much that it will survive the break.

I had a pretty good weekend. My friend Paulina is visiting for the weekend. She came here during my first year, and now lives with my former roommate in Kingston ON, where they both study Women's Studies at Queen's. We hung out for a while on Friday night, and then again tonight. It was great to see her again. Oh, and if she and Meghan are reading this: I swear that one day I will come visit you guys. Really. I just need to be not poor first. (Note: Having my credit card paid off is not the same thing as being not poor.)

Also, I ended up going to Halifax last night to see some bands play at the Marquis. Wintersleep, In-Flight Safety, and some third band that we missed because we got there were too late. The bands were pretty good, and I've lately been itching to get out of Wolfville for a little while, so I was happy about the brief trip.

As a result of these two things, I got little to no work done this weekend. For the first time all semester, that's strangely okay. Since I've finished up with translators assignments, and largely given up on A of A, I don't have too many assignments to do this week. I hate that: I'm finally feeling better and of course the pressure abruptly ceases. [sigh]

Anyway, bed now and math in the morning. Later, people.

"Congratulations. You have been kicked in the ass by the Misfortune Fairy."

As some of you are aware, I have been coughing for almost six weeks now. As probably very few of you are aware, I have also had a pain in my ribs since last Tuesday. After a weird snapping in my ribs this morning, which felt disturbingly like a taut rubber band being let go, I came to the following conclusion: This scares me.

In fact, it scared me enough that I decided to head out to Kentville and drop into the hospital. (Many thanks to Brandon for the ride.) It turns out I have 'costochondritis', which essentially means that I've coughed so much that I tore a little bit the ligaments that are supposed to be holding my rib in place. The weird snapping was apparently my rib going somewhere it shouldn't go. Or coming back from somewhere it shouldn't have been. It apparently takes 3 - 6 weeks to heal, and has resulted in me getting to sign for narcotics for the first time in my life. Sleep is going to be good tonight, people.

Now, in light of the rib thing, it's probably just as well that I didn't have to climb out the living room window this morning to leave my apartment. You see, the only lock on our front door is a dead bolt; the type you need to lock with the key from the outside. (Is there another type of dead bolt? Anyway...) This morning, I was faced with a predicament: I had to be at work in 20 minutes, and I could not find my keys. I checked the places I usually put them: the bookcase, the coffee table. My pockets. The couch cushions. I stopped and though of what I'd done when I first came in last night: Put a can of pop in the freezer. I check the freezer, on the off chance I had accidentally left the key in there. No dice, or perhaps more accurately, no keys.

I needed to leave the apartment. And I am absolutely adamant about locking the door of my apartment. After all, we may not have much stuff, but we like the stuff we've got. So I decided that clearly the only thing to do was dump my stuff on the porch, lock the front door from the inside, and climb out my one and a half story up living room window, and onto the front porch. Preferably without dying. By this point, I am already about 10 minutes late for work. So I put all my stuff on the porch, and turn around to go back inside... and see my keys hanging there in the lock. I hadn't even thought to check there, because I never do that. Off to work, and arrive 20 minutes late. [sigh]

Also: A of A. [shudder] I'm really not sure I can rescue my grade in this course. We'll see, I suppose. I just ended up spending way too much time on translators this week. At least, in theory, I should do reasonably well in that.

The codeine is telling me that I want to sleep. Night, all.

It feels much later in the week than it is

I have a translators assignment, an A of A assignment, a matrix assignment, an arch assignment, and an inexplicably burning desire to watch the stop-animation Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Right.
